Best New Jersey Betting Apps 2020

The legal New Jersey sports betting landscape is rapidly evolving and there are many great betting apps for both Android and iOS devices. The top betting apps for NJ include offerings from companies like 888 Sport and William Hill. This guide will teach you everything you need to know to begin betting via a downloadable app in New Jersey.

NJ Betting apps and geolocation restrictions

With sports betting legal in New Jersey there is a nice list of reputable sportsbooks that you have to choose from online to make legal wagers. Not only that but all of them offer NJ mobile betting applications, so you can bet no matter where you are on your mobile device. These NJ apps offer, almost, the same thing that the sportsbooks affiliated with them use and as long as you are in the Garden State borders you can make sports bets. New Jersey mobile betting is huge these days and there are some things you should know about the New Jersey sports betting apps.

The NJ mobile betting applications are available for download on your mobile device. As of summer 2019 they are mostly available for Android and iPhone users while it will likely not be long before Blackberry and Windows users will be able to get in on the betting action as well. The NJ apps are simple to download and using geolocation you must be within the New Jersey state borders in order to make a wager. Most NJ apps will not allow you to even check out odds and such if you are not in the state borders, but some such as DraftKings will.

Choosing a bet app in New Jersey

One of the best things to do when looking for a NJ mobile betting app is to look at the main sportsbook. That way you can check out all the sportsbook offers and, chances are, the application will have those things available as well. By looking at the sportsbook you can see what you will be getting with the app before downloading it.

With all the competition out there for bettors in New Jersey all of the apps will have bonuses available and some can be very enticing and lucrative. However, check out the terms and conditions of the bonuses before downloading the app to make sure you can meet the wagering requirements that have to be met before the bonus money is released to your account.

One of the nice options for New Jersey sportsbooks and NJ betting applications is that many will offer a no-deposit bonus. This allows you to check out the bonuses that a NJ app offers without you having to make a real money deposit. Sure, the wagering requirements are high for this type of bonus, but it will allow you to check out the app and all that they offer and it will not cost you anything.

For quite a few of the New Jersey sportsbooks they will offer their mobile casino through your device browser as well as through a application. However, many bettors take the application route, as it can give more options and the setup is usually better considering the app is specifically tailored for mobile devices.

Pros and Cons of New Jersey mobile betting apps

There are no real downfalls of betting apps in New Jersey, with most of the regulated sportsbooks having spent a lot of time and effort designing and implementing their iOS and Android products.

Betting app pros

App
  • Can make legal sports wagers at anyplace at any time
  • The same odds offered as desktop users
  • Many features are the same for desktop users such as betting markets and bet types, bonuses and promotions, customer service, and banking options
  • Can have specific mobile bonuses
  • Often you can wager at casinos and poker rooms if they have them associated with the sportsbook mobile app

Betting app cons

  • With a smaller screen, sometimes, navigation can be an issue with NJ apps
  • Pretty much for all NJ mobile apps live chat customer service is not available

As you can see there are not many cons when using a New Jersey mobile betting application. They offer most of the things that the main sportsbook does just in a smaller size for your mobile device.

Features of NJ betting apps

Much like sportsbooks there are some things you should look for before downloading a New Jersey mobile betting app.

Here are some things to check out before downloading a NJ mobile betting app:

  • Relevant betting markets: Make sure the NJ mobile app has all the sports you want to wager on as well as giving you all the bet types you want. This is especially the case for live betting, as with the newer technology for the NJ apps most of the better ones allow for live betting.
  • Navigation: Check the navigating of the app and it is pretty easy to use and navigate the app no matter how small your screen is. Most NJ mobile apps have solid navigation and are set up in the same way as the desktop version is just smaller.
  • Special bonuses: Sometimes you will see sportsbooks offer special mobile offers and bonuses and stay on top of those, as they can be lucrative and help you pad your gaming bankroll. All of these will be available on the top NJ betting apps in 2019.
    More: New Jersey Sportsbook Bonuses
  • Banking issues: As mentioned before with many of the NJ apps you can take care of banking issues but check beforehand if you can do so when it comes to deposits and withdrawals using a mobile device.
  • Safety and security: Make sure the sportsbook offers a safe and secure app, as if the desktop book does, they will as well, but you need to make sure.

New Jersey Sports Betting Timeline

Here is a short timeline of how New Jersey sports betting became a reality:

  • 2009 to 2012 - Senator Ray Lesniak led a lawsuit trying to overturn a federal law prohibiting sports betting. The court ruled that Governor Christie had to be the one to lead the suit. In 2012 Governor Christie signed legislation to legalize sports betting at the state’s casinos and racetracks, only to be sued by the professional sports leagues.
  • 2012 to 2017 - The public perception of sports betting shifted a bit. Adam Silver, the NBA's current commissioner, was a notable proponent in speaking in favor of sports betting. In 2017, the Supreme Court agreed to hear New Jersey’s case for legalizing sports betting.
  • 2018 - The Supreme Court voted to overturn the federal ban on sports betting in May. New Jersey, eager to offer sports betting, allowed the first retail sportsbook (Monmouth Park) to open in June, and the first online sports betting app (DraftKings) in August.
  • 2020 - There are now 17 online sportsbooks available in New Jersey, making it the premier state to bet on sports online. New Jersey residents have the widest selection of sportsbooks to choose from, giving them access to more promotions and bets.

Sports Betting Nj App News

Why Choose PointsBet:

  • You’re interested in PointsBetting. PointsBetting takes a spread, total, or prop bet and makes it a variable bet until the end of the game. The idea is, the more correct a bettor is, the more they win, and vice versa.
For example, let's say you bet $10 on the Dallas Cowboys (-3) against the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3). If Dallas wins 24-20, you covered the spread and won by one point. For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by one, for a total win of $10. If Dallas wins 26-20, you covered the spread and won by three points. For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by three, for a total win of $30. If Dallas loses 17-20, you lost the spread by six points (the three Jacksonville won by plus the three Dallas was favored). For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by six, for a total loss of $60.
  • Bonuses: Typically, PointsBet offers two risk-free bets up to $500 on the first fixed odds bet and PointsBetting Bet, as well as various seasonal promotions. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

    How to Read Odds

Odds represent the likelihood of an outcome occurring. In sports betting, each team is assigned odds that represent the likelihood of them winning the game. American odds are what you will see displayed on every U.S. sportsbook and sports betting app.

The first thing you will notice when reading odds will be that:

    • Odds have either a plus or minus in front of them.
    • Odds are in terms of 100.

Betting Odds are written in terms of 100 as an industry standard. The easiest way to think of the plus and minus signs is as follows: If it is a plus, you will receive more than a $100 payout on a $100 bet. If it is a minus, you will have to bet more than $100 to win a $100 payout.

Thankfully, you can view your potential winnings on each bet before placing it at an online sportsbook. That said, it is beneficial to understand the betting odds.

Keep in mind for both spreads and totals, if the game ends in a draw for the bet, you get your stake back but do not win or lose any additional money.

Spread OddsHow to Read itWhat it Means

    What is a Parlay bet?

A parlay bet is a group of bets, typically spread, moneyline, or total bets, combined into one bet to increase the payout odds. Every separate bet must win to win a parlay bet. View example bet slip.

    What is a Future bet?

A futures bet is a bet on an event that takes place in days, weeks, or months. The most common future bets are placed on what team will win the finals before the season starts. View example bet slip.

    What are Bonus Rollover Requirements?

Rollover requirements are requirements bettors MUST fulfill before they can withdraw the bonus money. Each type of bonus has different terms and conditions, which you should examine before accepting.

Rollover requirements for sports betting often range between 1X-10X, with some extreme requirements going all the way up to 15X. For example, let’s say you deposit $100 and receive a $50 bonus with a 5X rollover. Before you can withdraw the $50 in bonus funds, you have to wager $750 (($100 + $50)x5). Clearly, the $50 bonus is a lot harder to obtain if you don’t bet frequently.

This table gives you an idea of how much you will have to wager before withdrawing your bonus at multiple rollover rates. We will assume each deposit made is $100.
